REVOLUTIONARY CHANGES FOR COLONIALS!

The WCSU Colonials have had some major announcements concerning their Program over the past couple of weeks.

The Colonials have been accepted as a probationary member of the Super East Collegiate Hockey Association.  As such the Colonials will be playing their league games against:

·        Central Connecticut State University

·        College of the Holy Cross

·        Marist College

·        Montclair State University

·        New York University

·        Siena College

·        University of New Hampshire

·        William Paterson University

The current WCSU Team has been in the ACHA for 8 straight seasons and in the NorthEast Collegiate Hockey Association for 7 of those seasons making the NECHA playoffs all 7 years.  They have been ranked in the top 15 numerous occasions and competed in the Northeast Regional Tournament in the 2008-2009 season.

The SECHL offers the Colonials a good geographical fit and a highly competitive League schedule.

Bob Stearns has been named Head Coach of the Colonials.   After 8 seasons at the helm Dave Jurasek will be assuming the General Manager duties and act as an Assistant Coach to the Colonials.

Stearns has coached numerous levels of hockey.   He has vast experience as a Player as well including a stint in the UHL as both an Assistant Coach and a Player himself.  As Jurasek said, “When Stearnsie made himself available it was a no-brainer.  He brings both experience and a deep commitment to the same culture we have espoused here at Westconn of respect for the game, all involved with the game and a sense of fair play.”

Colonials Bid Farewell to Seniors

The WCSU Colonials said goodbye to graduating Seniors Steve DeMeo and Andrew O’Leary at the Annual Hockey Team Banquet.

Two Steps Downtown Bar and Grill hosted the event and Photographer Mark Aikman provided plenty of actions shots of the Team from throughout the season.

Steve DeMeo is a Communications Major from Brewster, New York.  He played with the Colonials for 82 games from 2006-2010.  He was also awarded one of 4 Academic Achievement Awards Players received at the Banquet.

Andrew O’Leary is a History Major from Cheshire, Connecticut.  He was Team Captain for 3 of his 5 years with the Team.  Appearing in 120 games since 2005 playing both Wing and Defense he had 77 points and 126 penalty minutes.  He averaged over a point a game in the 2008-2009 season.

Both Players played vital roles for the Team and as upperclassmen led the Team through their example of dedication and hard work.

Everyone wishes them well and success in their future endeavors.
