Coaching Staff

The WCSU Coaching Staff has has over 60 years combined experience covering youth, high school prep school, the US Olympic Hockey Development Program and the pro levels.  It is a divergent group dedicated to developing Players and assisting them in reaching their peak potential individually, but more importantly as a Team in a Team atmosphere.

Head Coach - Dave Jurasek

Recruited out of Catholic Memorial High School, West Roxbury, MA, Jurasek played his college hockey at Nasson College in Springvale, ME. Upon graduation he became the first Midget level coach for New Milford Youth Hockey and was the goaltending coach for the entire youth program. With a Master's Level certification from USA Hockey, Jurasek has 30 years of coaching experience including the Colonials from 1994 - 1997 and 2001 - Present as well as various levels of youth and prep school teams.

Assistant Coach - Bob Stearns

A graduate of both the Canterbury School and UCONN, Bob played professionally for the Danbury Trashers of the UHL and the Hartford Thunder of the MLRH. He has coached all levels of hockey from youth and high school to the professional level with the Danbury Trashers of the UHL as an Assistant Coach.
 





Assistant Coach - Scott Horvath

A Redding, CT native enters his 6th year in the coaching ranks having spent his previous 4 as an asistant coach at Joel Barlow High school and youth hockey levels. Scott attended UMass where he spent a year and a half before leaving to play major junior hockey in Canada for the St. Michael’s Majors in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Following his play in the OHL, Scott played 3 seasons in the ECHL and UHL combined. Scott was also a 2001 Colorado Avalanche draft pick.
 



Assitant Coach - Mark Allen

A member of Western’s Athletic Department since 1982, Mark has headed the Sports Medicine Program for the past 25 years.  In 1997, the University recognized Mark’s achievements by promoting him to the rank of Full Professor.  A native of Springfield  Mass, Mark has over 30 years experience as both a hockey player and coach.  In 1982 he worked for the United States Olympic hockey Development program in Lake Placid, NY.  In addition to his coaching roll Mark’s duties include acting as the team advisor, strength and conditioning coach, athletic trainer, and recruiting coordinator.
